comment Does IE have more strict Javascript parsing than Chrome?
@ClayShannon IE11 already trails behind all other browsers and it's not even out yet. And then, there it will sit, for at least another year while every other browser moves the web forward every 6-8 weeks. I haven't compiled my list for that one yet.

comment Does IE have more strict Javascript parsing than Chrome?
@ClayShannon Yes, it lit a fire under them. Instead of being 10 years behind the times, they're now only 3 years behind. Inept at best IE 10 is still the worst browser on the planet.

The web developer's mantra, "If it works in IE, but not the other browsers, your code is wrong." You can never trust IE to do anything right. Eventually, you'll find out the issue was with your code or Chrome was right in the first place.

comment Is there an advantage for a C programmer to have read K&R?
K&R removed the fear of learning it for me. It's almost as if they were sitting next to me explaining things in a homey, friendly chat. That is the value of "the white book". (And I learned it in 1985)

comment Creating a Website Without a Framework
What are these frameworks things you speak of? Never had 'em. Never will after nearly 10 years of doing this.

comment XML/HTML: Do we need the element name in closing tags?
@JörgWMittag - No. Closing tags are not optional in all HTML tags. w3.org/TR/html401/index/elements.html

comment Am I slow or is this normal?
In any new area I've gotten into, my personal experience has worked out like this: it takes me three years to become comfortable. Five years and my opinion matters to everyone else. Nine to ten years and I'm a master.

comment Is there a standard way to structure a website
And 960 has fallen out of favor for a while now which is why I agree this question is too broad and too much design opinion. 12 columns, too, is an opinion and doesn't work in all cases. Neither work well in a responsive design.

comment Software design vs physical products design
I feel the design process could, or at least should, be very similar so I could have a hard time explaining the differences.

You are comparing this to manufacturing while he is talking about the design process. I don't see how it answers anything.

comment Looking for meaningful, strong argument in favor of antivirus software on development machines
As far as web dev goes, we use FreeBSD and Linux but one Windows box for testing in IE that doesn't touch our dev network

revised Why does Microsoft have such a bad reputation with the people involved in open source?
This has nothing to do with the question or the topic.

@gnat - So if you don't want to know how things work, just use C++ et al.

comment Using industrial earmuffs while programming to filter out talking
To repeat a comment I put above, I've tried hunting ear plugs but they caused a continuous scratching sound which was equally distracting. Do these do that?

I've tried ear plugs used for hunting. Besides not working, there's a continuous scratching caused by the plugs. Do these do that?

comment Silverlight support from Microsoft
@LinMa - The little bit we've done, we just use the video elements and canvas but you have to watch for the usual IE problems you'll have as we always do. I've never used Silverlight so I'm not the best source for alternatives to that.
