Developer for a web development company in Bend, Oregon, but I live in the Portland area. I mostly work at building a content management system that runs on asp.net.
Been programming for fun or profit for almost as long as I can remember. I love it.

Where should I define constants in scripts? Sometimes that can be overkill. Especially if the value is only used internally to the code and not displayed to the user. I prefer to keep my configuration files minimal so that the app easier to setup. |

Should I pay my developers for bugs fixes for a project or work that's still in progress? That's exactly how we used to do it. For fixed bid, we fix them for no cost, but sometimes the "bugs" were missing functionality that wasn't clear in the initial contract. A change order was used then. If it was time and materials, there was usually a lot less definition up front. |

Is it safe to trust emulators when developing multi platform/resolution mobile apps? I don't think secure is the word I would use here. Maybe: "Is it safe to trust emulators?" Or: "Can emulators ensure compatibility with mobile apps?" |

Do you have regularly schedule app updates? And if so how do you handle bugs that make it out? It's not the running of a branch command takes that long. It's when they diverge, especially when the branches are maintained for long periods of time, that miscommunications and mistakes start to happen. |

Do you have regularly schedule app updates? And if so how do you handle bugs that make it out? Thanks for the input. We were branching, but have since cut back on it since it ate up a lot of time and confused some people. We do test, but sometimes things slip by for one reason or another. And we are fixing bugs primarily, but those can trigger other bugs. Once a week is a little difficult, especially when it takes away from development time. |

How to start team programming Branching can be quite useful sometimes, but most of the time where I work most developers use the same branch. |

Which database paradigm is suggested for a site with search capabilities? Would this new field need to be added to existing documents or just new ones? I don't think Lucene has a set schema, really. Just documents with fields, so it's a bit like NoSQL. |
