comment 2 closest points between 2 rectangles
Maybe Math.SE would be the best place. Is there a chance those rectangles overlap? In any casethere should be two sides closer to each other than any other two sides so you could already reduce search to those. (btw are you talking about corners of those rectangles, points on the sides or any point anywhere within?) In any case either the corners or sides are the only relevant. Unless they overlap on which case you have zero distance in that region.

comment Webservice Design: benefits of piping use-cases to URL rather than using search param's, or vice versa?
Well if you already have a large service that's not RESTful at all it may be a bit stretching to change things that much. But once you get the hang to see things in terms of resources, a lot of organisational questions of that kind answer themselves. maybe this book would help (I'm not related to the company, it just gives a nice overwiew)

@mOrloff update, maybe that makes it clearer. But details may depend on use cases of course.

comment How to handle returns when incorporating coupons or discounts in Point of Sale?
Seems more to be a thing to be decided by accountants of the company, maybe based onlocal tax regulations. Not really a programming problem as such.

comment How to approach design to minimize conflicts when distributing individual locations to merchants
Why can't you give numbers to those 'micro'locations and rent them permanently. That's what happens at every exhibition and similar events (and many markets). You can even have higher prices for the better places. (Maybe have a mix of fixed good locations and 'open' less important locations)

comment Why are there so few comments in C/C++ code?
Even in Web Development this is a culture thing. Ruby on Rails developers to my knowledge avoid excessive commenting too, many of them anyway. Normally good naming conventions and good code should explain a lot without need for comments.

comment Practical mysql schema advice for eCommerce store - Products & Attributes
Would adding something like Apache Solr or ElasticSearch for the search part be an option? In my experience with very complex data of the kind you describe this would allow you to design your database freely without having to worry too much about highly complex SQL queries.

comment Why can't we use unique identifier as combination of email and password?
@Freshblood seems I misunderstood your intention. When you write "unique identifier as combination of email and password" it sounds a bit like you want to do something like storing "xyz@xxx.com_thepassword" as unique identifier in your db. Seems you just mean that somebody can login using his email + password. As long as your users can't create multiple accounts with the same email that would be ok (many sites do this actually, not least of them gmail). (Others seem to understand it that way too, maybe make clearer what you want to do)

You would want to store the password in plain text? Anyway you can't be sure that an email is unique you can't also be sure that a password is. The whole thing sounds weird. Why would you want to do this?
