comment Will a Bachelor of Science in something other than Computer Science hurt a career in software development?
You can always start your own software company if that's what it takes.

In C# you also have access to real pointers, which means you have the option of using them if you need them.

comment Finding a new programming language for web development?
Your needs aren't beside the point when the point is that you're asking a bunch of complete strangers on the internet which language you should choose. That's why the highest voted answer atm is "Good Luck".

There's Adobe Air... but they just deprecated it on the Linux desktop. The current version might work for you immediate needs.

comment How do I create my own programming language and a compiler for it
Thanks for the edits, unknown person. I tried a couple of times but couldn't get my thoughts focused enough for the description... but didn't want to not mention the book. The book is now online at the Study Plan link: www1.idc.ac.il/tecs/plan.html. It's also very reasonably priced online. Enjoy everybody.

@Mercfh - "Oh thats not bad then." - Except that overtime is time and a half, and comp time is pretty much always straight time. So you're still losing out.

It's also entirely possible that the employer has unrealistic expectations for John, and that his performance is well within reason.

comment I want to write a Todo list application for mac but I only have experience with C++
@Matt Bettinson - Most experienced programmers don't want to be forced to learn a new languade to accomplish a task in a language they already know. This is the reason I suggested Qt, but you can use any language that supports the features you need. For GUI apps, other widget kits you can use are wxWidgets, GTK+, and Tk, which are supported by many different languages (Perl, Python, Ruby, C/C++, etc.). Even Qt has bindings to other than C++: qt.nokia.com/products/programming-language-support.
