I mostly do Erlang and CoffeeScript these days and am the author of "Building Web Applications in Erlang" and "Programming HTML5 Applications" Both of which were published by O'Reilly.
I am also very interested in the question, How do I become a great developer and spend a fair bit of time thinking about it.
I am also a compulsive writer. I love writing as it forces me to really think about what is important and how to make ideas seem more concreate

What is your go-to application when you start learning a new language? Yup, if you can understand it well enough to write about it you understand it pretty well. Its not nearly as crazy as it sounds |

Is obtrusive JavaScript ever ok? What I am talking about is how will the site function if Javascript is turned off. There are some times where it will be fully functional (if maybe not as nice) and others where it will fail completely. I am not worried about old browsers that do not support JavaScript (Netscape 1). Of course in any case there is no reason to write BAD javascript |

(Why) Should I learn a new programming language? No Idea, how to do it. Post a gist with the examples would be how I would share them. |

How important is it for a programmer to know how to implement a QuickSort/MergeSort algorithm from memory? In truth 99.999% of the time when you need a sort just using the library that comes with your language or runtime will be the correct choice. |
