comment What modern alternatives to Numerical Recipes exist?
@Stewart I have a license to use the code in my commercial project. You just need to write to them and request permission to use a small number of recipes.

Who cares what the code is like? Wrap it up nicely and never look at it.

comment Why is DRY important?
If you can't answer this yourself, you need to get some more real world experience of development and maintenence.

comment Good design: How much hackyness is acceptable?
Only you can judge it, but factor into the decision correctness. Even though A is hackier, you may well be extremely confident of its correctness? With option B, all that re-writing opens up serious scope for regression. Do you have time to test properly if you take that route?

@stijn your understanding is incorrect it does not raise an exception. If it did it would propagate up the exception handler chain in the call stack.

comment Best practices concerning exit in Delphi
I think this is an over-simplified view of the issue. You can't really mean that programming guidelines would be the only reason to avoid using exit.

comment Best practices concerning exit in Delphi
@Nick What warning? When moved inside the if, the compiler can determine that Result is always assigned to.

comment Best practices concerning exit in Delphi
Why would you set Result := False outside the if statement? That appears wasteful and imprecise.

+1 it's obvious, but if anyone out there is not doing this, then they are doing it wrong!
