comment Is there a benefit in compiling your code as you go along?
My best code is when I create as much as possible upfront not worrying about spelling syntax etc..

comment Should I build my own CMS or rely on a pre-built one?
@Alex Bennett, One other thing, There are open source CMSes. If you get the source code. You could start with that, and then modify it to your liking. This would really accelerate building your own. It's like a hybrid approach. Who really wants to reinvent the wheel?

comment Models should match table structure, Viewmodels match how the data need to be displayed?
So, my model might have properties pointing to different physical tables behind the scenes? for example; ContactModel, shouldn't be a 1 to 1 match to the database table dbo.Contact in every case?

comment MVC framework seems to suggest creating possibly hundreds of .aspx or .cshtml pages. How do I avoid this?
@Developer Art: Pat your brain for me.

comment What syntax element do you hate most in a programming language you use frequently?
// works just fine to comment out CSS. I do it all the time. All I'm really doing is typing garbage. but it seems to work by skipping the unparseable line.

@WyattBarnett Thanks, That is the point I was trying to convey.

comment What's the correct approach for passing data from several models into a service?
So, you are saying it is perfectly acceptable for one controller to reference other models? in Microsoft examples, they always seem to have 1 to 1 to 1 for model controller view, which is so over simplified it makes me want to vomit in terror.

comment I want to master ASP.NET - What concepts should I focus on/What concepts do you most value?
First things first, take any information about practices or standards that come from the domain *.microsoft.com, and ignore those, also delete any bookmarks or favorites you have to them as well.

In your opinion are you suggesting this could/should be done somehow as a web stateful app? or was that just an aside?

comment How many skills should I list on my resume, CV?
@C. Ross You should only list the skills you want to work on and grow. Don't list the things you know and hate.

comment Software Design: Build it fast or build it well?
It's worth mentioning that 80% of the work is gathering the facts on what it is you are intending on developing. Most developers dive in before knowing what they are really trying to accomplish. If you do your homework and spend that 80% analyzing and planning, the remaining 20% will be a breeze.

comment Why do business analysts and project managers get higher salaries than programmers?
Bigger salary in america has absolutely nothing to do with skill. More you are liked, and the more you play the politics game, the more you get paid. Programmers are usually logical, intelligent, individuals, who tell it like it is. Executives hate that.

comment Is C++ suitable as a first language?
My final thought. We do not need 10,000 developers trying to write the next sort algorithm.
