I'm a programmer. Simple as that.

Really? JavaScript is confusing? To me it all seems quite natural. But that's just me :-P.

comment Should software engineers also act as tech support?
I'm in the same boat as you and fully agree with you. However, it should be possible and more often that a receptionist takes the call and writes down a note for you to give that customer a call back. That way you can go on not getting interrupted in your work and call back when it suits you best. Do however call back the same day, preferably within 2 hours after the call came in.

So what do you want? It should be enough to get you started. You won't really know how easy it is to pickup anyway until you actually experiment with it.

Follow the Quickstart Guide (framework.zend.com/manual/en/learning.quickstart.intro.html)

Ah, you did not mention that. As said, read up the documentation of those specific libraries. The learning curve for MVC with ZF can be a bit steep if you don't know the MVC concept yet. Otherwise I'd say it's more than possible to get familiarized with it in a week.

comment Why do game developers prefer Windows?
That's not true actually, that Linux users won't pay for software. The Humble Indie Bundle (a bundle of games you can get for any amount of money you wish to pay) has been done twice now and every time it showed Linux users paying more than Windows users for the bundle.

I agree with Herberth Amaral. Branch merging in Subversion is terrible.

comment How can we integrate use of a foreign language into an internship?
@ChrisRamakers I knew about Dutch and French being the official languages in Belgium. Never thought German would've been one of them as well. Learned something new today! :-)

comment Worst coding standard you've ever had to follow?
If you need to scroll horizontally (for example more than half a page) there's probably something wrong as well. No indenting isn't good either as it makes code completely unreadable. I try to stick with a 78-col limit, but if required to go over that amount I don't mind, but I do try to avoid it.

I expected 5 years would be my max, but it turned out that indeed 4 years seem to be the magic number for me.

Don't forget that upgrading from PHP 5.2 to 5.3 can have (big) consequences on existing applications that were written before 5.3 existed.
