comment Worst coding standard you've ever had to follow?
@John MacIntyre: That's what tests are for. The student who copies all his homework from others without understanding it is going to be screwed when he has to write code on the spot.

Yikes. That example would make me steer clear too.

I wasn't sure what tags to use on this question. Suggestions welcome.

comment Where does the word “Programming” come from?
@Timwi, I don't know... I don't think the fact that the question works well for one StackExchange site necessarily means it's off-topic for another. I think there can probably be some overlap.

This is a good counter-example to the claim that every question on this site is subjective. (That said, most are.)

comment Do you prefer conciseness or readability in your code?
+1 for not assuming another programmer's lack of knowledge. In the example given, the second option is only less readable if you aren't familiar with the null coalescing operator. I would never write my code based on the assumption that my co-workers don't know the language syntax. Even if they didn't know what ?? means, if I use it and then they learn it, we've both benefited. And it's not like it's hard to type in "?? operator" on msdn.com

The Internet is like alcohol for the 21st century. Homer Simpson:"The cause of, and solution to, all of life's problems."

Well, those two are for semi-extreme circumstances. Not quite as drastic as the last one.
