I'm an Application Developer specializing in Java, particularly the IBM flavor - WebSphere, DB2, MQ. On the side I like to work with both Java and other languages, and I'm currently learning new languages such as Groovy and Ruby. When I'm feeling really crazy, I write a little Prolog.

comment Drawbacks of code kata
+3 for Mike's comment. In general, much more time is spent maintaining code than is spent initially writing it. You'd expect craftsmanship to be applied when someone builds your house, since you're going to live in it for a long time. The same should be applied when someone builds software -- but much of the time it is not.

comment Why isn't Java used for modern web application development?
I'll take more choices and a little more complexity over PHP's over 9000 built-in methods.

comment Can you actually produce high quality code if you are sleep deprived?
... based on my recent experiences with Facebook, I would say that it's pretty consistent with my argument. I got about 3 or 4 errors using different parts of Facebook today.

Nice, so it sounds on par with IBM MQ and Message Broker, haha
