@DanMcGrath - When a developer leaves your company or dies, you're going to lose some knowledge. I'm not saying "Each piece of code should be owned by one and only one person". I'm merely saying that having more specialized knowledge is unavoidable and probably even advantageous. Do you want a team of people who know a little about a lot or a lot about a little? My guess is somewhere in the middle.
