@Brian maybe I was not clear enough, but we discussed all possible details of the job in the first round, including salary. Frankly I don't get the amount of "what an evil workplace this must be" comments. Candidates were informed over the phone about the interview process. If they wanted to opt out, they could do that with zero time investment.

@Brian Schroth it is exactly how it's conducted.

@CraigTP I like that, you should add this as an answer (it absolutely qualifies so).

@tehnyit Partially yes, but mostly I'd like to see the candidates' real world skillset. It's a different thing to believe someone saying "I use MVC", and actually see him/her coding a simple view without breaking MVC rules. Video will not be used.

This is exactly how we do this. Candidates were informed after the first round about the challenge, they were given ample information about the duration and the scope of the problem they're going to have to tackle. The registration form is a good challenge, thanks!

I quite like this idea about pair programming as part of the interview!

First round of interviews were conducted exactly like that. Candidates were given code snippets and they had to find errors, design flaws, refactor some parts etc. However at the end of the day the job is to design and write code effectively. So I'd like to see how they do that.
