comment Preferred way of handling errors when loading an object from a file
If you use RAII correctly and no raw pointers, there is no problem you can get into with exceptions

comment How to prevent others from using non-thread safe variables in a multithreading environment?
It makes sense, this is what I'd do also (if you like to prevent others to make a mess...)

comment How should I mark types in C and C++ programs?
and I find it nice to have a style DIFFERENT from the standard C types, so reading the code you can easily find what is from the client program and what is the API

comment If a language changes quickly, is this considered a good thing?
C++ is not the evolution of C, it's a new language somehow compatible with C.

comment If a language changes quickly, is this considered a good thing?
C++ "evolution" is C++11, the new norm. "C#" or "D" are not C++ evolutions.. As C++ is not the evolution of C.

comment Do object-oriented programming languages exist that are not class-based?
that's what I remembered, also you need to pass your record to each member function

comment Are there any jobs in the programming field that don't require you to sit at a desk all day?
You can do a lot of things in industrial (PLC-like) programming that is not directly electrical engineering. Believe me.

comment Why is Java considered more portable than other languages like C++?
C++ doesn't know anything about PCI bus nor hardware though.
