comment What non-programming books should a programmer read to help develop programming/thinking skills?
Does the [closed] mean that I have to save away this thread before it is removed, or will it stay here in a [closed] state? I really find this thread useful even if it does not meet all the quality standards of the (less formal than SO) programmers Q&A site.

comment Why did Git get so much hype? …while others don't?
Add to this that some huge open source projects use git which sort of makes the decision for you. I have been "forced" to use git several times (for android for example) but I haven't been forced to use Mercurial or Bazaar. Also, I think git is great :)

I wish I could point to some research to support this, and not only to my own subjective experience. I'd be interested if someone knows of any good studies into learning methodologies.
