comment Why are floats called “real numbers” in some languages?
Of course 1/3 can be represented with absolute accuracy in a floating-point number system, though not, I grant you, a binary f-p number system.

comment Identity matrix using Fortran 95
You're probably not using the edit descriptor to write a 1- or 2-digit integer. Try experimenting: use simple write statements to write to the console varying both the width of the field and the size of the integer.

comment How does the Scrum Master participate in Daily Stand-Ups?
We could find out her name, but it's more fun enjoying the Dilbert-esque absurdity of the situation Be careful that you haven't become Wally. Sure, she may be the pointy-haired boss but that alone doesn't make you Dilbert.

This is a joke right ? You have a daily meeting with someone and you haven't asked her name ? I know that scrums can be rough, but the common courtesies of life still apply.

comment How should a non-IT manager secure the long-term maintenance and development of essential legacy software?
I didn't suggest they find a firm to provide software, rather a continued benefits administration system service.

comment Is it crazy to develop a TUI today?
I've always taken the view that a command-line interface inside a window managed by a software window manager and displayed on a modern bit-mapped display is a GUI and ought to be enough for any user.

comment Is there more to being a programmer than what I'm being exposed to?
You've just asked a specialist in high-performance numeric computing how Facebook and other such trivial systems are developed ! I would guess they don't use a lot of Fortran+MPI ...

comment Any languages use the '=>' and '=<' operators?
@VitalijZadneprovskij: I've never heard a native English speaker say less or equal than, always less than or equal.

comment Software Management Tools for Agile Process Development
+1: especially in the beginning OP ought to aim to develop local practices independently of the 'help' that off-the-shelf solutions provide. Later, find a tool which supports local practices.

comment Should I change language to stop becoming stale?
You're the Technical Director and you want to learn a new programming language ?!? That's what you hire grunts like me for. Upwards and onwards, learn management accounting, head for CEO.

comment How do you learn a new programming language?
As they say: real programmers write in Fortran whatever language they are using.

comment Is 4-5 years the “Midlife Crisis” for a programming career?
4- 5, sorry, I thought it read 45 years and might promote some interesting discussion. You children :-) (32 years in, still not in crisis)
