comment Tabs versus spaces—what is the proper indentation character for everything, in every situation, ever?
@TomWij it's hard to take your answer seriously if you don't care enough to type out the actual word "you".

comment What is the role of QA in a BDD-driven project?
+1 for "another set of eyes". My wife is a QA person. She has crashed an ATM before just trying to get some cash. I'd like to think the ATM was pretty thoroughly tested before it was shipped. She still found a code path that crashed it.

comment What should I be using to store data in a legacy web development project?
-1 for the JPEG example. XML can (reasonably successfully) be used as a storage format, and drivers exist to use CSV and XML as backends.

comment If the purpose of a single complicated LOC is clear, would you bother to split it on to multiple lines to make its method clear as well?
+1 for a very clear example.

comment XML vs SQL for small projects?
"One user at a time" is code speak for "in six months it will be our sole revenue stream and need to support 4,000 simultaneous users". Plan accordingly :)

comment Would you purchase hardware with your own money to use at work to do your job better?
I'm going to mark this as the answer, because it's the only question that I think accurately grabs my feelings. They most certainly provided me with what I needed to get my job done, and past that it wasn't inadequate hardware. I just wanted better. Everything got cleared with IT, which isn't hard in a company with a pool of 15 developers!

The "they will pay the price in longer development time" is the business decision I was talking about in my original post. I guess my question is focusing more on quality of life for the developer.
