comment Designing a better performing total permissions setup for multiple permission levels
We currently have this system right now, and checking the permissions is a relatively long process (around 5 to 10 seconds in SQL). Right now, we create a cache table to store user permissions each time a user's permissions change, so it doesn't have to do the same query each time. However, adding more levels of objects will exponentially decrease performance of the system. This has already been proven.

I tried to expand on the question, so I hope that's clear enough. I'm trying to find a better performing system for our permissions that allows multiple levels of permission inheritance.

Sorry...maybe I'm not being descriptive enough. I'll try to elaborate.

comment What are some best practices for minimizing code?
Learning, more then anything. We're mainly looking at how effective it would be for us and what other practices there are when it comes to minification. Ultimately, I think we're looking for obfuscation and client performance.
