comment Is client-side validation really all that important, always?
@JonStory One of the main points in the question is that requests/response are much faster so I don't think that's a valid argument. With the speed of connections nowadays, I doubt some extra bytes are going to be noticeable. Especially when it's likely the response is already bloated with other libraries needed for the page. The validation code is likely to be a very small percentage of the total page size.

comment IF ELSE shorthand. Does it hurt readability
As @haylem said they are not the same thing. They may not always compile to the same thing. Just something to be aware of. I now the standard if is more efficient in c++, not sure for c#.
