This is great @Pete, thanks for this. This and in particular the BDD cycle is, I think, the grain of sand which brings clarity to the ideas which I arduously attempted to describe in my question.

comment Is a Factory class still a Factory class if the objects it returns already exist?
The "create if not created but otherwise return reference" nature of this pattern makes me feel that this is the most natural fit. Thanks

comment To go for scjp 6(now ocp jp 6) or oca jp 7?
Actaully, I think the cost might vary by region. In mine, the total cost of taking the SCJP for Java 6 followed by the Java 7 upgrade exam is exactly the same as taking Java 7 Programmer 1 (Their OCA) followed by Java 7 Programmer 2. Both routes lead to equivalent levels of certification. This is subjective, but I think taking SCJP6 first is a bit better, as you end up with more to show for your efforts in the shortest amount of time. Also, the Bates preparation texts for Java 7 are not yet published.

comment How can I get my website's search results into Google's search results?
You're trying to get your website to pop up for ANY Google Search and offer a summary of the things that your site has found as an alternative? The only way you're going to get past Google with that one is with $ or by offering a Browser Plugin which augments Google searches.
