comment Is a predefined key enough security when performing HTTP requests between two secure servers?
@CodeMonkey: OK. You listed PHP as one of your question tags, so it wasn't clear to me.

...Data is being sent from Google's servers to my host's servers... Can you elaborate a little more? Is Google hosting your web page? Or is this logic running on a cloud-based backend server? The context matters greatly.

comment Can Visual Studio 2008 run side by side with Visual Studio 2012?
@brushleaf: I have VS 2008, 2010, and 2012 all running on my workstation because (probably like you) I need to support Windows Phone 6.5.

comment Facing “crunch time” for work project, need advice
@ZJR: If you are indeed correct, please see my comment about the rampant "dinner-time" and "soccer practice" hypocrisies. // By the way, you're absolutely right. Companies who take advantage of their developers will suffer turnover, a decrease in code quality, and an increase in technical debt.

comment Facing “crunch time” for work project, need advice
@maple_shaft: I've never seen graphic designers pull long hours, but I've definitely seen testers stay late. // I really agree with Mike Smith though. Even though many people in many professions may log long hours, suits have a particular penchant for asking developers to log long hours to "bridge the gap". Meanwhile, they're home eating dinner with their families and attending Joey's soccer practice.

The software developers should tell the suits: "Hey, why don't you guys stick around for the D'Angelo's subs and after 5 'o clock work? After all, we're a team, right?" :) // @maple_shaft is right - This is spun as a short-term effort, but will likely be a long-term trend with snarky jokes like "In this economy, aren't you lucky to have a job?"

comment Where can I turn to if I can't fix a bug?
+1: Second, you can make your code more debuggable. Absolutely. Make your bug as shallow as possible. In 'The Cathedral and the Bazaar', Eric Raymond said that “Given enough eyeballs, all bugs are shallow.” Before you ask for more eyeballs, do everything in your power to reduce the complexity of your code. hbfs.wordpress.com/2009/03/31/…

@Rachel: Out of curiosity, which language do you program with? And do you suppose that that has any impact on your job satisfaction?

Wow. Why was this question protected by @Mark Trapp? This definitely seems like a question that he would've swiftly closed. He must've been in a good mood on 8-25-11.
