-1: I'm not sure how old you are, but you might want to learn design patterns, particularly the template method pattern. Design patterns will make you a better programmer and they'll end your ignorance of abstract classes.

Hmmm... I agree with you; but I have to say that this "best practice" hasn't reached my dark corner of the Earth. Through the years, many teammates have been quick to blame the database for performance problems.

I believe you, but this is not the norm, and even when changes are adopted it's often not worth your while, given how hard you have to fight for them. What's I'm saying is that you'd probably get more bang for your buck elsewhere.
