comment Suggestions for CSS frameworks?
@Niphra Yeah, it looks like you'd have to use version 2.2 to get IE7 support (github.com/zurb/foundation/tree/2-2-stable) - I'll have to see what one loses by using the older version. Thanks for the input.

comment Classic ASP to ASP.net or ASP.net MVC
I realize this is a "well after the fact" comment, but you don't necessarily have to go all-in on either WebForms or MVC - an MVC project can host WebForms pages, and vice-versa. I do this in MVC apps to get support for SSRS & the ReportViewer control...

@Charles I'd agree with @Jon Purdy. It's not wrong to post it here, but you might get a better response from Code Review.

comment Will taking a job that's web and database related limit my software development opportunities later on?
@nikie Oh, no problem. I hope I wasn't sounding argumentative. Perhaps the best answer is to get familiar with how the industry you want to be in is geared, in the area you want to reside, and learn accordingly? :)

@nikie Maybe it depends on the environment in one's neighborhood? One of the largest growth areas around here (Grand Rapids, Michigan) is the medical sector, and with it the need to manage a lot of raw data, so around these parts, DB knowledge is a major plus.

comment What issues are there for doing freelance work?
That was definitely something I didn't anticipate the first time I did contract work. Taxes? I have to pay all those myself? Yeesh.

True, although even things like, say, Firefox or Android apps, use embedded databases (I think Firefox uses SQLite internally?). We also do a lot of XML parsing using LINQ, so perhaps it would have been better to say something to the effect of "know how to load a structured data source" instead.
