comment why there is no power operator in java / c ++?
@Pacerier computer science is the branch of applied maths dealing with computer programming. Doing Computational Fluid Dynamics (for example) is using computers to solve an physics problem. You don't do CS research in Fortran and you don't do CFD using a theoretical Turing machine.

@Pacerier computer science is not about using computers to solve non-CS problems

comment Why is the following naming guideline different between OO and non-OO languages?
@rick, yes. The main reason is that you generally can't overload so print(doc) print(image) print(muppet) wouldn't all be possible

comment Windows Console App vs Service
A service doesn't have an attached console, it can't print anything to stdout but has to use system logging instead

comment Is it possible to write an operating system in C?
Wouldn't you need to be able set specific registers and call IRQs to write drivers? I haven't done device drivers for modern PCI bus stuff.

comment What needs to change for Software Engineering to become a formal profession?
@JonathanRich - in addition would you expect pharmaceutical research chemist, cell biologists, molecular geneticists to be in the AMA? There are a lot of people in software engineering without a CS degree in the same way there are a lot of medical people keeping you alive that aren't MDs

comment Is C a pre-requisite in order to learn C++ effectively?
@comingstorm - been programming C since before Ansi and I'm coming to the conclusion that C harms C++ skills. It's very difficult to not write for (int i.... and use lambdas or to call algorithms on collection instead of index arrays
