Even in void *, void means "nothing", not "anything". You can't dereference a void *, you need to cast it first to another pointer type.

Apart from adding comments, almost all changes on an issue will change some field, so that conflicts are very likely. And what should happen if two people perform conflicting workflow transitions on separate copies of the issue tracker? How would you merge that?
