Elegant ways to handle if(if else) else I'd recommend reversing the logic on the 2nd solution: { if(file exists) { set contents; if(sometest) { return contents; } } return null; } It simplifies flow and reduces the number of lines. |

Why is C not considered an 'object-oriented' language? It is possible to do object-based programming in C, with some difficulty. But that doesn't make it object oriented. |

Why do people use programming books? This is a serious problem that deserves more attention. All programming languages are Turing complete which means that you can solve any problem by writing C-like Python code, or Java-like Ruby code. There's no roadblock there that will force you to conform to the zeitgeist of the language you're programming in. Worse, you may not even feel the pain of your coding inefficiency because it will be approximately as painful as it was in native C or native Java, a pain level which you have come to accept as normal. |

How do I tell a senior programmer that I disagree with him Agree with Paul, you're working at the same company if you keep your ideas secret merely to avoid having credit for the idea poached you either have too big of an ego, are too paranoid, or need to find someplace else to work. |
