comment Private variable vs property?
+1 Yes in most cases (MVVM) the PropertyChanged event is a must. And that can only get fired inside a property. Good explanation.

+1 for MVVM example. Actually that's what sparked the question in the first place.

comment Is it better to develop apps using a platform specific technology or web technologies?
great explanation. I knew there had to be a reason there was such a jump for web technologies recently and it was hardware acceleration.

comment What determines when a computer is considered a “client”?
yes I have heard this definition which is the most common I know of. I guess theres a bit of a mix up. What exactly is the client? Is it the device that requests the service or could it also be software requesting the service? Thus my assumption that usually all "clients" are considered the devices in the hands of the consumer.

@Jeff O not necessarily. I just want to know if the meaning of client has a specific set of characteristics, and if so couldn't all computers that have these chararteristics be considered a client.

@Rachel see this is what I heard. The thing is I've tried to learn this but found a lack of resources for implementing this in WP7 applications. What made it a little more confusing on top of it was the fact that the examples I studied each implemented it in a different way. What's your suggestion on how I can get started?

+1 for "You dont' want to blindly follow a design pattern just because someone told you it's a good idea". I tried implementing it because they told us to and found that I was creating twice as many files along with making the application way more complex than it needed to be. I guess theres always a balance.

@Jon I pass data from page to page. But other than that there really isn't communication between the different components of my app.

comment Is developing games the best way to learn programming?
this is what I thought originally. But consider your absolutely new to programming. Gaming seems like an excellent tool to learn many different concepts. Michael lists some of those. To be honest I wish I would have learned OOP from a gaming perspective first. But that could have been due to the fact that it was poorly explained, or that developing business applications makes it a little more difficult to grasp the concept. It's definetly interesting to observe both arguments.

comment Is it ever a good idea to hardcode values into our applications?
@Gabe Good one. Its just that before I hard code a value I cannot help but think twice, or three times...I'm sure there has to be a balance because I have simply not been able to program without hardcoding occasionally.

Thanks for the feedback. Yeah every time I took a course or read examples the one writing the code always treated hard coding values as a shortcut but never to be used in production.

@Shamit Verma I'm using .NET for the WP7 Platform.

@Shamit Verma this is exactly what I wanted to know. Are there any resources on accessing a key through a web service?

comment When to use PHP or ASP.NET?
Web Forms does have benefits though. For example the thousands of ready to use controls for rapidly building web apps has been a plus to selling my customer on a website.

comment Where can I get programming books?
Amazon by far is the best place to get programming books. I've gotten screamin deals, not to mention books that I was unable to buy anywhere else. The problem with other places is they only offer the "latest" books which creates issues when your looking for previous versions. I've gotten 3 books with no issues.

@VirtuosiMedia another important factor I didn't mention.
