What's the best practice for naming uploaded images? If your goal is to store only one profile picture per user, some would say the obvious choice would be name the file the same as the users id. |

Terms of 50% deposit upon acceptance of SOW, 50% delivered upon delivery of programming. Is this standard practice for offshore consulting? That's known as a split payment fixed bid and is a normal way many businesses handle projects. However, 50% upfront does seem a bit high. |

Is it a good idea to install Mercurial on your server and hg pull to deploy? It's a process that many do and infact considered "normal" enough that Microsoft now has built in support to do Git (with hg support possible in the future) based deployes to their Azure service. |

Should Agile teams deliver new features daily? Which is fine, agile/scrum just says it will deliver potentially shippable code at the end of the sprint, not even new features! Many places have entire sprints where it's just improving performance or cleaning up code. Any place that expects you to have a new feature done each day is abusing scrum to take advantage of you. |

Are unit tests really that useful? I would suggest visiting DimeCasts.Net and watching their video series on Unit Tests and Mocking. You will learn a lot by seeing code in action. |

Should a software developer get a yearly equipment budget? @warren to clarify, i'm a consultant. They let us use our own personal laptops for project work, unless we work onsite for a client that provides us the hardware. Part of the perks package is to give you $1000 for your personal laptop. |

Should a software developer get a yearly equipment budget? There is no standard, some companies provide budgets others don't. I've worked for both, I'm currently at a place that will buy you a new laptop and cover up to $1000 and pull the rest out of your paycheck over the next 12 month to pay the rest. |
