comment Show “hobby” project during the interview?
Most interviews i experienced started with a general "please tell us something about yourself", which seemed to be made to include acomplishments. In this context, i wouldnt find it "shoehorning" to talk about hobby projects, if one considers them an accomplishment

Yes. I was reluctant to add recomendations, because until now i just used prototype and jquery, so i am very biased.

comment How to convince a client that you will not steal his idea
While actual telling the client that without sugarcoating, i feel that there's a little truth to that.Clients who value their ideas to much often have a difficult mindset, in which they compare everything to an hypothetic ideal. Someone got successful with a similar idea? must be treason, the idea cannot be that obvious. Customers are not coming? must be the technical execution of the flawless idea, not the lack of marketing, etc.

comment Why aren't there explicit access modifiers in Python:
My example wasnt meant to show different counts of underscores, the use of __init__ was incidental. The example sets some properties of the object, that are not know on compile time, so an explicit access modifier would not help you.

comment What can one do when “lead by example” doesn't work?
I found GTDWYOG to be not very helpful. In my opinion, at least the title is misleading: someone who "is involoved in hiring" or has the freedom to ignore the rest of the world while working in the cafeteria is not a grunt. A grunt is someone who has to do as told, with little to no control over the circumstances he is in. In my experience, despite the idealistic picture painted here at stackexchange, that is the case for most developers. And for those, GTDWYOG is more a recipe for beeing fired for disobedience.

comment Is it a responsibility of the software developer to understand what the customer meant with his request?
@KeithS: yes, that would be a nice way that noone looses his face. But, in some special cases, the bosses managed to agree to deliver something logically impossible, and bragged about the successful tests... :) Afair, some jokes from the stackoverflow forums put a request for a program that solves the halting problem on a project bidding site. The answers were amazing, someone apparently already solved that problem :)

@JohnNevermore: i would argue that would make the Team Lead the go-to-guy for questions. It's beyond your realm of influence that there where developers before you, and it doesn't change you need to understand the problem. If he refuses to answer, run.
