But what is there to fix? What exactly is the problem? Does it just need to be refactored?

I agree, but I think a lot of people who are new to MVC don't realize the role of helpers, so at 1000+ lines of code, I'm sure they'd come in handy somewhere :)

I get this as an overview of MVC, but I think some information regarding helpers would benefit the OP more, as functions should probably be defined there?

comment Are 9 to 5 programmers looked down upon?
@Jalayn I agree completely, work should be done at work. I interpret "9 to 5" programmers as those that just go to work, program, and never do anything outside of that timeframe.

I'm not really sure that this is a reasonable request - and I mean reasonable in that you can attain your goal in such a short period of time.

@MattBettinson if your question was more geared toward the process of contribution, I think you would have a valid (new) topic - unfortunately, I agree with ChrisF that the other questions should give you answers.

Are there any in particular that you'd like to work on? It might help to know what kind of process they use - for example, GitHub's pull requests are (imo) very beginner friendly.

comment Using a CMS that I'm not familiar with just for the sake of the job?
@janoChen it really comes down to the right tool for the job - WordPress is a great blogging platform, but it takes a lot of modifying to replace what a CMS/Portal system provides. Larger clients/businesses will have needs that differ from what WP has to offer.

@janoChen The WordPress market, right now, is very volatile. It is oversaturated with developers, and I have a feeling the codebase is going to go through a major overhaul very shortly here. I'd strongly, strongly suggest working with other CMSes like Joomla! or Drupal because the WordPress outlook could change very quickly.

@Caleb I agree completely. I get kinda stuck in my web mindset since that's all I do, haha

Color and rounded buttons are a graphics concern and really have nothing to do with UX. A better question for UX would be "what does our user think of our site with x color scheme vs y color scheme" and the placement of said buttons.

@James Khoury I asked "Can you tell me about your experience with Git?" and the candidate responded "Yes, I've worked with GitHub" so I think I prompted a response that was a little more elaborate than that. I'm not a pro-interviewer, though :)
