comment Python for first programming / web development job
I think that it is particularly difficult to get your first job in your favorite technology. With 3-5 years of software dev experience, you may find yourself more attractive to those few Python employers out there, particularly when they see your enthusiasm for Python.

comment How old is “too old”?
Glad my experience was encouraging to you. I'm forty now, still really enjoy programming, and no longer have a junior salary. Hope it goes well with you.

Agreed, I was steering clear of Ant vs Maven, but I prefer Maven for that reason.

I'm curious about the close vote here. This seems like a completely legitimate question to me.

comment A programmer should concentrate on at least how many languages?
@Den I didn't learn Python to get a job at a cool Python start-up. I learned Python because Java is lousy for many small tasks that can be easily automated with a scripting language.

comment Is Ubuntu workable as a laptop for an IT consultant?
@GlenPeterson Well, sort-of. I'm no longer a consultant, I work at a smallish tech company now. I have been using Ubuntu professionally for 9 months now, and its been a very positive experience. A nice aspect of working here is that at least 30% of the devs use Ubuntu here, so there is plenty of support for Ubuntu issue.
