-1: What's obvious to you might not be obvious to others. Also, writing the JavaDoc will make the function appear in generated documentation.

To know if you've improved, read your own code from some time ago, for example a year earlier. You would probably find things that you would do differently (and hopefully better) now. You could also do specific exercises (code katas), to see if you write them faster, more elegantly, etc.

If you add a semicolon to the end of the class definition, and make the inheritance public, it would be proper/possible C++ syntax.

I agree with @umlcat. I also do cleaning like this, but I usually do it in specific commits so as to not "hide" the actual changes.
