If you think of a good comeback for this, let me know, I may need to use it soon

comment When deciding on whether or not to work for a new company, what are your dealbreakers?
@Wayne For the longest time, ca2.php.net was blocked, considered "Personals/Dating" somehow. ca., ca1., and ca3.php.net were all good. Was annoying when I'd get load balanced to ca2 and had to change it... I know your pain.

comment Is Java to Linux what .NET is to Windows?
Just going to add that a lot of Gnome apps are being built in C# using Mono. Think F-Spot and Tomboy Notes, for the two that pop to mind first.

Should be noted that once you get your head around it, this sort of thing becomes a non-issue. It's only really a problem if you don't do any checks in critical areas for user entered values, but is infinitely useful if, say, you know something will be a number, but comes as a string. For example, a field from a DB will likely be returned as a string, and you don't want to worry about casting it.

comment What is the most frequently used design pattern?
Only time I've ever seen need for it is database connections. That said, nearly every "Service" (read: similar to factory) class in this project at work is a singleton, stored in the PHP $_SESSION variable.
