comment Can you use Pi as a crude random number generator?
Even if the number distribution is fairly random, don't you have to find a way to randomly select a portion of it?

comment How serious is losing the source code?
And to further expand on the "customer's perspective" bit, what I'm getting at is, I don't know what the story behind the question is, but it would not be unheard of for the customer to think they've got the right to expect the source code to be guarded like Fort Knox while the developer considers it a "throw away" when the customer hasn't asked for any modifications or additional work in the three years since deployment.

comment How can I motivate myself to start learning more?
@darkie15 -- If the goal is to learn a particular something (e.g., Collections), find a way to incorporate it. In the meantime, though, the stated goal is to learn more, so if you're pushing yourself to learn anything you didn't before, mission accomplished, right?

@Frank -- Yes, I've oversimplified, but for the purpose of the topic at hand, I still think it's true. And when you know you don't know enough, learning more in any language will affect the way you think about programming.

Yep--in fact, perhaps maybe a good guideline would be to have a project in mind where you have an idea of how you would make the overall system, but there are individual components that will be new territory.
