comment Where should I put a method that returns a list of active entries of a table?
It's okay for EntryModel to have getEntries(). You're grouping logic in the sense that EntryModel will only deal with entries and UserModel will only deal with users. But wait...what about getUserEntries($userID)? I'd stick that in EntryModel as you're returning entries.

wow, thanks for the thorough update. the first thought that comes to my mind is what a tightly coupled mess! but i guess there's no way to avoid that.

can you give a very high level pseudo code example of an OO approach?

Okay. But if the client wants to work on a per project basis how do you convince them to pay you for all this planning work before the per project contract is decided?

Thanks. But if you know the client wants to pay on a per project basis and all of this analysis work is to be done up front(which could potentially take dozens of hours) before the project price is decided, then how do you structure compensation for the initial analysis work?

comment How to structure template system using plain PHP?
i wonder if there is any way to get rid of using $this in the template, for example just $title or $name.

how do you handle looping over some scores say? do you use a separate "sub" template?

in what sense? do you mean it can't be altered using drag and drop? textually the second one is the same as the first but with a couple lines of PHP wrapped around. So assuming it's always going to have that structure, it isn't any harder for them to edit by hand.

@scriptocalypse Either. What I want to know is - is all the complaining about flash performance due in large part to flash developers using flex to build their apps? are most runtime complaints due to flex? are most download complaints due to flex?

@Christopher That's very related to flex. I'm pretty sure with flex it's impossible to generate a .swf < 200kb. Whereas it is possible to make a useful .swf that is 10kb without flex. Regardless of that though, I don't understand your point. Doesn't it depend on the size of the .swf? Does a small .swf with nothing else on the page really load slowly for you?
