comment Why is it (or was it) important to separate CSS from HTML?
Imho it's more of a clarification than moving goalposts. I added edits to clarify that most issues mentioned in answers are orthogonal to the core question why should I separate HTML and CSS and don't actually answer it. They are like saying "it's spaghetti code when you mix HTML and CSS". Well, I can write spaghetti code also when HTML and CSS are separated. This has nothing to do with the question.

I think it's a good point. Maybe I'm just doing MVC wrong :) Btw, I believe that changing requirements are unavoidable when you develop a web platform for lots of users. You don't know how your users will behave until they start using the GUI.

These are useful hints, and I actually already follow most of them. My problem was, that I write tests for some button, and then this button gets removed while the same action is handled from somewhere else. Or the button stays there, but the label changes, and the button runs also some additional action.

@MichaelDurrant: You edited the question to be about UI testing in general, while I originally asked about unit testing. I find integration tests harder to maintain and I prefer unit tests over them, whenever possible.
