comment What is an effective git process for managing our central code library?
I have since solved this a different way, by telling all customers that they are getting the same build whether they like it or not. We then turn features on and off in the site's GUIs, and upgrade all customers at the same time. This has been remarkably effective, and has made our work easier and the customers happier as they get better support.

comment Understanding dependency injection
The complicated construction scenario is a good candidate for use of the Factory pattern. That way, the factory takes on the responsibility of constructing the object, so that the class itself doesn't have to and you stick to the single responsibility principle.

comment Debug PHP: is XDebug worthwhile? Are there any alternatives?
This'll help a lot: xdebug.org/wizard.php It's possible to set it up so it looks like it's working, but without a couple of important settings.

OK, so how does the cost change if e.g. I have two roles, both with the same skill available and I go to purchase it?

Are skills shared across roles, or specific to a single role?

comment Are there Negative Impact of opensource on commercial environment?
Also, the marketing impact of having your company's name attached to THE standard software tool used by all serious players in your industry (if/when that happens) would be immense.
