comment Why would you use vi/vim
Hmmm... I guess it's just all not clearly documented, I'm open to Vim, but after seeing a few (junior) devs using it "to be different" and thrashing and thrashing against typoing commands and the like, I'm not convinced I'd be as productive even in the long term after I learned the tool. Is there a good resource on learning Vim?

@Caleb says "but nobody really contests that these editors are far more powerful and capable than any of their graphic counterparts" ... Really? "No one" contests this? Most of the GUI IDEs I use have some pretty powerful refactoring tools built in. Error notifications, refactoring notifications, simple plugin management, simple tabbed interfaces I can navigate from my keyboard to switch between files, etc. I don't know much about Vim, but the developers I see using it seem to thrash a lot against the small things, like switching between files.

comment How do I cleanly design a central render/animation loop?
Try TDD. Once it's testable, it'll be "cleanly" implemented (or really darn close) If you can't test it, it's not "clean".

comment Custom HTML Tags: Are there any specifications stating a standard way to handle them?
I've seen them used as placeholders for various front end frameworks. Most notably Google's AngularJS.

I don't have the code handy, I'm afraid. It's something I ran into a while back and it's been on my mind since then. The code was in .NET and was essentially a straight File.ReadAllBytes() vs FileStream.BeginRead() in a for loop

Yeah, I figured as much. I guess I was hoping there was some sort of study to use as a guide or rule of thumb.

comment What are good keyboards for programming?
I admire what Apple did here with making their desktop keyboard match exactly to their laptop keyboard... but why would anyone want a laptop sized keyboard for a desktop? It's probably the least ergonomic keyboard that could possibly come with a desktop. If you like RSI, this is the keyboard for you.

IANAL (worst acronym ever)... but... 1. no contract? 2. no pay? ... it's yours. Tell them how much you want for it. If they give you flack, lawyer up. Most lawyers will at least give you free advice about this stuff.

comment Is defining a variable to name a method argument a good practice?
@JamesPoulson: You probably did know you could do that in JS and just didn't realize it. It's all over in JQuery: $.ajax({url:'', data:''}) etc etc.
