As a polyglot programmer, I always choose the best language or technology for the task I wish to accomplish. I'm never afraid to learn new things for a project.

What? Why would you prefer Subversion?

Will HTML5 even be complete as a standard in 5-7 years?

comment Are abstract classes / methods obsolete?
@Sjoerd: But you need a base class with the shared implementation; that can't be an interface.

comment Can we price a software based on its lines count, language, technology and stuff like that?
C/C++ applications aren't necessarily faster than C# or Java. I've personally rewritten part of an application from C++ to Java making it faster.

@maple: From what I've seen the coffee machine is probably a better metric.

comment In what visual format should I present an estimate for a software project?
Jon Hopkins: That's not my experience at all. Clients know that stuff takes time. We also never ever change our estimates because the client says it should take less time. We would however give them a discount if needed.

comment How can I get the team that I work with to communicate synchronously?
Disagree with #3 - IMs can sometimes be a lot easier than phone. It depends on a lot of things.

Why would it be a negative? Getting and keeping jobs in smaller companies is generally harder.

comment Programming language for simple program?
Also, the CLR has what is probably the best base class library I've seen.

comment Is it more efficient to query once for all settings, or query whenever a setting is needed?
@ChrisF: Okay, I didn't know that.

Why is this not on Stack Overflow?

comment How do I “ease into” programming coming from a designer background?
@SimpleCoder: JavaScript (these days) is usually compiled into an intermediate form and executed with a virtual machine, but you'd be hard-pressed to say it isn't a scripting language.

comment Is it possible to get entry-level jobs and internships without devoting all your time to programming?
I expect interns to know nothing; I assume all their studies were irrelevant. The important thing is not to know how to work, it's to know how to learn; hiring interns is a net loss anyway - we only do it as a form of extended job interview for people who aren't yet ready to work for us because they haven't finished school.
