comment Are abstract classes / methods obsolete?
@Sjoerd: But you need a base class with the shared implementation; that can't be an interface.

comment Can we price a software based on its lines count, language, technology and stuff like that?
C/C++ applications aren't necessarily faster than C# or Java. I've personally rewritten part of an application from C++ to Java making it faster.

comment Can we price a software based on its lines count, language, technology and stuff like that?
@maple: From what I've seen the coffee machine is probably a better metric.

comment In what visual format should I present an estimate for a software project?
Jon Hopkins: That's not my experience at all. Clients know that stuff takes time. We also never ever change our estimates because the client says it should take less time. We would however give them a discount if needed.

Why would it be a negative? Getting and keeping jobs in smaller companies is generally harder.

Also, the CLR has what is probably the best base class library I've seen.

comment Is it possible to get entry-level jobs and internships without devoting all your time to programming?
I expect interns to know nothing; I assume all their studies were irrelevant. The important thing is not to know how to work, it's to know how to learn; hiring interns is a net loss anyway - we only do it as a form of extended job interview for people who aren't yet ready to work for us because they haven't finished school.

comment Are there any drawbacks to the Major.Minor.YMDD.Build version strategy?
I'd suggest hex just for the month, and use YYMDD - e.g. for 2012-12-12 you'd use 12C12.

comment Is Displaying Degree In Office Appropriate?
I never understood why doctors and lawyers have the tendency to display their degrees. I know you have a degree, otherwise it would be illegal give me medical or legal advice. These are qualifications that every single doctor/lawyer has. For software developers, I think a degree isn't such an important qualification either. Begin a good developer is what's important.
