comment Why are people making tables with divs?
This is ridiculous and lazy. Anything you're doing with <div> “tables” could probably be done with regular ones, so there's literally no reason (apart from old IE versions and laziness) to use non-semantic elements for building tables. That said, actual tabular data seems rare on the internet so maybe this is a non-issue.

comment Why don't compilers inline everything?
For the record, LLVM/Clang (and several other compilers) also supports link-time optimization.

comment Can I distribute a software with the following permission notice
Doesn't the second paragraph follow implicitly from copyright law? The author of a software isn't a licensee, right?

comment Advice on reconciling discordant data
This seems similar to stock (and similar) market prices. A moving average would probably provide a fairly accurate value over time, for an appropriate number of terms. Subtracting the moving average from the actual data points would then give you fluctuations you could treat as a stochastic process, to obtain variances and deviations and such.

comment Why does the assignment operator assign to the left-hand side?
R can assign to the right-hand side (value -> variable).
