How to land a job at Microsoft @Vitor Braga Ok I'll give it a try when I've finished Clean Code and The Clean Coder. I must also resolve the problem of the price... Sarawut Positwinyu: Hahaha |

How to land a job at Microsoft I was going to buy this book, then I've seen that the examples were in the Assembly Language. I have some basis with the Assembly Language but I'm afraid it can be a big obstacle. And I don't think an alone book will help him to get this job, it will take hundreds of them ^^ (as a beginner I've 'only' read about thirty books). |

Why do people use programming books? Too bad it wasn't accepted as the best answer as it's the one most people agree with. The selected answer was selected just because it was the same opinion than the person who asks the question. And my problem is that the selected answer doesn't "answer" the question "Why do people use programming books?". Sorry for the poor english, I hope I made myself clear. |

What would be a good 4-hour development task for a job interview? @Dunk : I know most projects aren't from scratch. I just said that in the case they are from scratch, the tests can be useful. But I agree with you it's rarely how it is. |

What would be a good 4-hour development task for a job interview? I agree mostly with you but this kind of test can be justified if the developper will have to work in projects from scratch with short deadlines. It really depends on what kind of profile is needed. |

Is it normal for a company to have programmers on such a rigid schedule? @q303 You're expecting to get a reward for your performance too soon. Managers want to have consistent performances, they don't want big ones from time to time. You must know how to bend yourself to work according to your manager preference. You can learn to work at the hours they want. I've done it, I was like you before, I was doing a great job but I came late the morning and left late too the evening. My direct boss was happy, but not the ones above. Now I come everyday at 8:30. It takes me time to be as efficient as before, but you'll come used to it. |

How can a code editor effectively hint at code nesting level - without using indentation? It looks great ! Good job. But how will it look when there is more indentation ? |

Move on and look elsewhere, or confront the boss? @Tangurena: As a young programmer, I'd be really interested to have your list of books about the corporate world. |
