My programming and board game hobbies have intersected in the DAIDE project; unfortunately, my work with PowerSpeak takes most of my computer time.

comment Is big-O really that relevant when working in industry?
Where you really notice this is when looking at code written by someone who hasn't internalized Big-O, and is surprised that their subsystem performs so horribly in production. Even a basic understanding is enough to make you question four nested foreach loops over the same two huge arrays...

comment Single statement if block - braces or no?
My thoughts exactly. If the single statement looks good on a single line after the if clause, I don't use braces. For any other if statement (or any statement that uses multiple lines), I always use braces. In particular, if there's an else clause, each case always has braces.

comment Killer semi-unique programming language features
+1 for being able to pass a parameter deep in the list without having to pass values for all of the optional parameters before it.

comment Which things instantly ring alarm bells when looking at code?
System configuration files. Typically should be set by ./configure, but even that needs a default value somewhere.

comment Make a big deal out of == true?
I've used similar constructs when x came from user input (configuration file or web service, for example). However, I usually allow other truish values, so it ends up more like if x.lower().strip() in ["true", "yes", "on", "1"]
