Also don't try to hard to structure their learning path, I went Logo->Basic->Assembler at age 13 and my dad wasn't very supportive cause he felt asm was way too big to take at that age. It's didn't stop me, but it sure did put a wall between us.

comment How did you become a const correctness convert?
I'm totally in the immutability camp, my favorite language is Erlang. But I would argue that immutability via const in C++ is not really free. There are downsides like less readable code, const and non const versions of the same method, or casting const away cause "there was just no other choice".
