comment How to make Classic ASP interesting if you are stuck with it?
@Gratzky no, but it was a horrible technology even then. Far inferior to the two main alternatives: PHP and JSP

comment Is it necessary for Java programmers to learn some C/System programming?
It's good to know the concepts, but on the other hand C programmers usually write awful Java code and vice-versa, so be careful what you do in foreign territory. Oh, and check out the Programming Language Matrix

@jmort sooner or later it's getting to the point where nobody can effort the cost of not having such a dedicated position

comment What popular “best practices” are not always best, and why?
@TokenMacGuy the crucial aspect is the implied by the spec part. That's where opinions differ a lot.

comment Why I'm not selected in an interview?
has anybody actually looked at the CV's HTML code? It's exported from MS Word. Not what I would expect from a Senior PHP developer...

what's wrong with asking questions? a good question is at least as insightful as a good answer!

comment Will high reputation in Stack Overflow help to get a good job?
@Konrad almost anybody can get high rep if they put enough effort in it. I'd guess you got those job offers because your answers are very good (although the rep probably helped). But I doubt that someone who has 50k rep would automatically get job offers if he'd only given many mediocre answers (those do get rep after all).

comment Which things instantly ring alarm bells when looking at code?
about /dev/null: I have the habit, when developing on windows to keep apps and libs under c:\dev. Somehow, a folder null is always automatically created inside that folder. I swear I have no idea who does that. (One of my favorite bugs/features)

@Pierre303 and you don't even have to be a genius to get to page 100

embrace Object Orientation when and only when it's useful. period. (PS: In my opinion it's nearly always useful, but opinions tend to differ :-))

I would not agree to everybody on page 100 being great. I'm on page 16 and there are many people in that range whom I'd never hire. Perhaps having two gold tag badges for unrelated tags could be a sufficient indicator (I don't have any yet myself)? But apart from that I'd say: sure, it should be one of the things to put on a resume if you've got at least 10k rep. But hiring people for SO rep alone? Only the first 5 pages or so.

comment How do you interview someone with more experience than you?
@JBRWilkinson An experienced person will see the 'free consultancy' a mile off and this will harm negotiations. I strongly agree. The Free Consultancy scheme is awful and unfortunately not unheard of.
