comment What does SVN do better than Git?
+1 for the authentication issue. Git commits need to be signed, and the signings need to be checked which is difficult.

comment Why doesn't the DART language use a special character to identify variables?
With Java there are some cool tools in place. For example, you can use Eclipse Refactoring features to rename a variable (works with most other editors too). You just say: rename this, give it a new name and then all references to this name are updated. I never do the "find/replace" way I needed with PHP. This was a huge improvement to me. In Dart you can have a Dart Editor based on Eclipse. Not sure if does refactoring of this style too, but for sure there are good chances.

comment What is the current state of Google's Dart programming language?
The web is not a step forward because JavaScript is a great language, you have missed something, really. And it will not go a step back because Dart is there. JavaScript is nice, but not the solution for every environment, not for every company, not for every developer. You should accept that JavaSCript is not a religion and people think different than you on that point. I like Dart, and this after I have worked a long time with JS now. It is ugly and has to many exceptions for my taste.

You fail to understand that Dart is not Java. Dart can even look like JavaScript (somehow). Not everybody feels well without classes, this is the reason for so much shit code in the wild: people try to make JavaScript with classes, not understanding it is a totally different paradigma. You can say this is arrogance, I say people understand classes easier than prototype based development. Not only time is money, bugs are money too (not having them).

I have worked with Java and JavaScript and I can say that your post is horrible and naive. Programming languages are not religion, and Dart has a pretty good approach. I don't think we can or should get rid of languages like Java. This is just hacker-speech without any reasoning.

comment What php programmer should know?
@Michael: sorry i didn't want to flame around. I was just surprised. Anyway, I can agree to what you wrote now. But please see, I wrote "Build tools like Ant or Maven". I did not say exactly those two. But I expect a PHP programmer to work with at least one of these tools. Be it pake or whatever.

First, i said: "how to connect to mysql databases, how to setup schemas, how to create sql statements". This has nothing to do with the administrative tasks. It is basic usage. On Drupal, I think they are most common - many customer in that area want them. As for Maven, please take a look here: bit.ly/je4bOc The Pom.xml is for Maven, build.xml is for ant. It is very useful for efficient deployment cycles. Can't believe you do not use such tools? I am for sure not throwing any terms in. But I expect from a PHP programmer more than syntax or function names.

Payment APIs have a special way of working - you should have done it once to know where the bullet points are. To be honest, if you just want to know which functions one must know, then you are looking for a newbie. Get a list out of the manual. Then this questions does not make sense.

Actually it makes perfect sense for me. Ant/Maven or what you use (pake for example) is necessary if you need to survive in professional environments. I have never worked without a build tool. Dependency Injection is a very important design pattern. Zend Framework does offer it, PIWI too. I also expect a PHP programmer to be able to work with databases. Did you -ever- write PHP app without using a database? Around Drupal & Co, these are the most used CMS at the moment - any PHP developer should have used them.
