Sure that fools a stupid bot. However any descent hacker could still just look at a working registration and write a bot around that.

failed, because your test code has been written for an older version of your product and is no longer compatible - if your tests are breaking because of this then likely your tests are testing implantation details rather than behavior. CalculateHighestNumber v1 should still return the same result as CalculateHighestNumber v2

Yes generally. There are things you can do to secure cookies (ie encrypt them) but the simpler and more effective route is to secure the whole site. Unless you have a specific use case I would recommend the simplest solution
