comment Conceptual question regarding the portability of a software from desktop to mobile
The answer to the question depends quite a bit on your design and coding phases. Specifically if your design separates your display mechanism from your logic, then you'd only have to create new display logic for the mobile version. If you mix the two together then you'll end up writing new logic code, no matter what. Also, if there are additional capabilities on the mobile or web side, that may change your design.

No way to check the timestamp on it beforehand? Such as having an update service you call to check if an update is needed.

@Oded Really, there is nothing different about software conferences than any other conferences? What about the temptation to carry your laptop everywhere and try to code all the samples real time? What about how to take useful notes on a demo? How is this not a, "freelancing [or] business concern"?

Are you checking that the config file itself has been updated before downloading it?

Are you asking if there is a better way to communicate image changes to the phone, or if there is a better choice to reading the config file than loading the changes into an array?

comment Is it more advantageous to write a program to test your code (ie a client) or just use the main portion of your program?
+1 for being on stack exchange and not testing dev deployment.
