comment How to respond to a rude bug report?
Definitely the more rage in the report, the more polite I would be. It drives them insane.

As ever the plural of 'anecdote' is not 'data'.

comment Why not use the word bug instead of exception?
Brevity doesn't mean that it's not an answer that highlights the difference between the two things.

comment How do big companies maintain their products' source code without it falling into wrong hands?
It's unlikely that even if you could get hold of 'the source code' somewhere like Microsoft that you would ever be able to replicate the build process. And even if you did, what are you going to do, release a fork called "Bob's Windows"? The only value it would have probably is for malware authors to find holes, and those guys probably have nefarious copies already.

comment Understanding Visual Studio Community Edition license
@ScottCarmichael "Well most companies that want programming work done make more than $1 million annually" - certainly plenty of much smaller companies than that need customised software in my experience, and the Community Edition is perfect for that.

comment What are the disadvantages of test-first programming?
It's like anything in this game - appropriate for many situations, inappropriate for others. Beware of anyone advocating a One True Path in any area of software development.

Absolutely - document the hell out of every fix, do a screen recording etc

comment Is it possible to develop a web application entirely in Javascript today (client and server) including a RESTful API exposing PostgreSQL data?
Wakanda just added SQL Server and MySQL connectors however I think they are only in the Enterprise version. If you could get reports out of the thing, they might be onto something.

comment What stops HTML5 and JS apps to perform as good as native apps?
Add reporting to that.

comment What is easier to do with web applications compared to native GUI applications?
Pure UI which is relatively simple. No web application UI can come remotely close to a good desktop UI without serious pain.

comment Will it ever be possible to build quality websites with editors alone, without needing to know HTML?
It might become possible if we move away from HTML/CSS to something less crap.

comment How many developers on the same virtualized Windows Microsoft machine?
In terms of application development I would agree with most of that (apart from 1), especially if Windows services, web services are involved.
