comment Is the carriage-return char considered obsolete
@EvanPlaice: Writing this question already cost you more of time than simply shoveling in support for CR newlines into your codebase. (...and if you firmly believe this isn't the case, your parser's design must be pretty hectic)

comment Is Perl still a useful, viable language?
@BenLee Your rebuttal sounds superficial. Have you tried actual smalltalk programming (it's ****ed up) or are you citing (biased) academic sources? Ruby has a solid OOP syntax derived fom java/javascript, and a quirky string processing syntax derived from perl. Smalltalk has the vague notion of objects, and a quirky... everything

comment Why isn't Japanese software industry as strong as their hardware technology?
...but isn't that the same Canadian/American software that was formerly developed to beat the japanese on the animation battlefield? (the perception is they have/had this ludicrous mass of fast-drawing animators willing to work crazy-hours for peanuts, and it posed a serious threat to the american animation business, until it got 3D)

comment Why was Objective-C popularity so sudden on TIOBE index?
...also, Java was already popular as a language for mobile application development on Symbian phones. Google just targeted that pre-existing developer ecosystem.

comment How to avoid jumping to a solution when under pressure?
I'm afraid there is no finite number of programmers that can help you. Normally programmers understand the problem, and they just do that by... understanding it. There is a number of trivial methods to make sure you got it right, but it's hard to impossible to find one for you, given the fact they should be outright obvious. The kind of rush you describe seems... slightly insane? Have you tried practicing more, with real timed tests? Have you considered seeking psychological help for anxiety, or at least reading some self-help books about working under stressful conditions?

is PHP/GTK even still maintained / binary distributed? Also there is PHP/QT, but AFAIR it's quite unstable.

Security issues in this setup will have to be considered, though probably this is an intranet and a limited scope application, so I bless the attempt, just take care. If targeting windows you may have also give a look to this obscure MS technology: .hta
