I'm a software engineer that's been in the field for a little over 10 years now. I started out as a C programmer on "soft" embedded systems (cable set-top boxes FWIW). Since then I have moved to the other side of the client-server system and have been specializing in distributed systems development in C++. Over the past few years, I've moved from writing code every day into doing more systems design and architecture work.

Sharing code in LGPL and proprietary software If you are redistributing someone else's libraries, headers, or anything else, make sure that they are aware of it. Redistribution won't necessarily impact them but it could cause some legal discomfort for you. |

Is Java “dead in the water” as a consequence of Oracle buying Sun and subsequently suing Google Definitely true. Afterall, wasn't C# somewhat caused by Microsoft and Suns little scuffle that lead from Visual J++ -> J# -> C# and yet both C# and Java seem to be doing quite well as languages. |
