Read 'The mythical man month' to gain some perspective... it hasn't appealed to me though (most I've ever worked with is 4 other developers, plus 3 testers and a pm). Larger teams sounds like it's just meeting after meeting after meeting :(

Also, Big 0 notation is useful for estimating performance. If you write a chunk of code, it's useful to be able to look at it and think 'thats not gonna scale'.

comment Is premature optimization really the root of all evil?
For really small numbers of items, the recursion required for quicksort can make it slower than a decent bubblesort though... not to mention that a bubblesort is quicker in the worst-case scenario of quicksort (namely quicksorting a sorted list)
